It started with brown and pink. Modeling paste for texture, fluid acrylics finding their way across the surface. Layers poured on and then removed — a spray bottle stripping everything back, leaving only the ghost outline of what had been there. Evidence of the attempt. Proof of the process.
Then green appeared. There was no plan for it. No reason. It just arrived.
That's what this painting is about. The growth that doesn't wait for the right conditions or the right moment. The thing that comes up through the dark and the stripped-back layers and the uncertainty and simply is. White marks added last — roots, or bare branches, or the very beginning of something.
Without Permission is for the woman who has watched herself grow at the most inconvenient times. In the middle of grief. In the aftermath of something hard. Before she was ready. She didn't plan it. Didn't ask for it. It happened anyway.
Some things bloom without being invited.
This started with a day of play and using one of my favorite wardrobe color combinations- yeah, you find inspiration in the weirdest places. But I love brown and pink together, what can I say. Since it’s almost spring and we were having one of those rare spring days in January I added some green and away she went. Hope you enjoy!
