Raw and elemental — this piece looks like the inside of something that's been through everything and came out richer for it. The coiled dark form in the upper right holds tension against the warm flood of orange and gold, while copper and silver traces remind you that pressure creates something valuable. This is a painting about resilience that doesn't apologize for the process.
I love working with earth tones. For me, it's grounding, bringing it's own since of peace. This one started with some texture (modeling paste and crackle) then I started layering the colors. I usually work with saturated colors and let the layers create the various tones and this one isn't any different. For me, it pulls you in to see the various marks, sometimes imperfect, but that's what I love about painting and life. It's all about belonging in the messy middle knowing that we are all just a little imperfect. Enjoy!
