What it was Supposed to Be | Original Abstract Mixed Media Painting | Bloom Series

This painting was reworked more times than almost anything in the studio.

It started in texture, and for a while it was going to stay simple — black and yellow ochre, restrained, finished. But the longer it sat, the flatter it felt. So the spray paint came out, and everything changed. The ochre deepened into a bright yellow glow at the center. Purple and teal began moving together across the surface. Pink arrived because it had to. Charcoal storms hold the top corner; the color breaks through everywhere else.

What makes it work is that it had to fight its way to itself. The first idea wasn't the real one. The real one only showed up once the original plan was allowed to fall apart.

What It Was Supposed to Be is for the woman who has learned that you rarely arrive where you set out to go — and that the detour was usually the point. Who walks into the room with a plan and stays open to the better one. Who has made peace with the fact that the discovery never quite ends, and stopped wishing it would.

Original, one-of-a-kind. When it finds its collector, that's it.
